Tomorrow begins our week's "time off". Here's our itinerary:
Tonight pick up our rental car & pack. Tomorrow get the 7 AM ferry from Valdez to Whittier, arriving at 12:45 PM.

From Whittier we drive to Girdwood (population 2250) - about a 45 minute drive. Girdwood is an
unincorporated year-round ski resort community within the Municipality of
Anchorage in the U.S. state of Alaska.

On Thursday we drive to Homer for the 11 AM ferry to Seldovia (population 260). There is no road system connecting the town to
other communities, so all travel to Seldovia is by airplane or boat. Seldovia's motto: "Alaska's Best
Kept Secret" The town's original
Russian name, Seldevoy, translates to "Herring Bay", as there was a
significant herring population prior to rampant overfishing early in the 20th
century.
We're staying at Central Suites of Seldovia -
Early evening on Friday we take the ferry back to Homer (population 5100) and spend two nights there. One of Homer's nicknames
is "the cosmic hamlet by the sea"; another is "the end of the

Sunday it's back to The Alyeska Resort and Monday back to Valdez. A bit of a whirlwind trip, but it should be a lot of fun - and lots of blog material.
