June 2nd to June 10th

It is so funny to be back here. We never would have guessed that Valdez, Alaska would be some place that is familiar. It was strange to fly into Valdez and recognize where we live, the veterinary clinic, our favorite restaurants, and so on.

Here are few snapshots of our first week - quickly getting up to date!

Our landlords/friends Terry & John took me with them to Terry's (another Terry) Greenhouse to buy their summer plants. It's 91 miles one way! That gives you a very good idea of life in Valdez. It is absolutely no big deal to drive that far just to buy plants. Her greenhouses were wonderful - I have never seen such beautiful dahlias.

Since the veterinary practice is slow, and I'm sort of bored, we thought we'd get summer jobs.

The hours aren't bad, the pay is pretty good, and the job site at The Valdez Glacier has spectacular views.

By the way, the photo above shows our car for the summer, quite a difference from the truck two years ago.

We 'entertain' thoughts of living here and even found a "fixer-upper" in our price range.

Happily our favorite after work spot, "The Fat Pelican" is still there and the view is as beautiful as ever.
