 A very nice and interesting couple, Sherry & Jim (more about them another day), whom Jeff met at the office with their Brussels Griffon, invited us to attend church on the ship, "Lu-Lu Belle". It is the 24th year that the ship's owner, Fred, has volunteered his beautiful ship for summer Sunday service. It was/is a beautiful morning. There is actually a heat warning in effect for Valdez, although that may be for Valdezians in shock with 80°+ temperatures. Historically the average summer temperature is 60°. The highest recorded temperature in Valdez was 86° in June, 1997. FYI the coldest was -23° in February, 1968.

It was a non-denominational service sponsored by The First Baptist church of Valdez. Let's just say the message was interesting. The subject of Pastor Chad Richardson's message, on Father's Day, was family order per The Bible. He (Pastor Chad) said the family hierarchy is God, Jesus, man (husband), woman (wife), children. Hmm. There was an almost audible eye roll by the women on the ship - one of those wordless bonding moments.  The word submissive kept coming up relating to 'the' wife - Jeff will be going back to that church regularly to have the message reinforced. Needless to say, he will be going alone.

After church we headed for "The Totem Inn" for breakfast. One of those restaurants that has a 4 page breakfast menu, and everything sounds really good (although I'm not too sure about reindeer sausage).


Oh, remember yesterday when I wrote that the saying in Alasaka is "The odds are good, but the goods are odd"? Happily I can report that the saying is not always accurate!
