Hello Seldovia
The small brown building at the end of the video below is The Seldovia Terminal. The man in yellow is our B & B host, John Carluccio. His wife, Paulie, was stationed in Alaska when she was in the service. Her sister came to Alaska to visit, loved it and stayed. When Paulie and John started dating, she took him to AK to visit her sister. He fell in love with it, too. They built a house out in the woods and stayed there for 3 weeks in the summer, then four, then two months, etc. Eventually he left his business, Koram USA (they do packaging for all the major cosmetic companies) in Jersey (Bergen County), and they moved to Alaska permanently. They bought the B & B quite a while ago, and three years ago decided to renovate it and run it themselves. His dream is to buy another boat - he totally renovated a 60+ footer back in Jersey - and go up and down the Intracoastal. If that happens, he promised to visit in Wilmington. Very, very interesting man.

The NBA finals were on, so we went in search of an "establishment" that had TV. Luckily it was almost across the street. Not only is it a bar and a restaurant, it is also the liquor store. If you want a bottle of wine, for example, you buy it in the bar, but they may not give it to you in the bar. You have to walk out the door to the other door in the same building, and someone appears with your purchase! It was a fun place and fun crowd.

The Historic Seldovia Boardwalk
"After the Good Friday Earthquake on March 27, 1964, which registered 9.2 on the Richter scale the surrounding land mass dropped six feet. Seldovia's "boardwalk" was a thick wooden plank and piling, and the town's main street, was built almost entirely along the waterfront. Most of the community's businesses, and many homes were similarly constructed upon pilings on either side of this "street". The sudden sinking of the land caused higher tides, peaking at 32 feet, to completely submerge the boardwalk and flood the homes and businesses along the waterfront. The waterfront was rebuilt (known at the time as "urban renewal") using fill from Cap's Hill, which was demolished to rebuild the town on higher ground. There is only one small portion of the boardwalk left; this section of the boardwalk was built decades after the original boardwalk and it is known to the townfolk as "the new boardwalk", even though it is now the only boardwalk. The original boardwalk is completely gone, destroyed during the urban renewal process, along with many homes and businesses."

I thought your itinerary was to take the Ferry to Seldovia, that looked like a plane to me. Seldovia looks like a very nice own for 260 people. I am amazed at your pictures and the wealth in Alsska, is there poverty?
